North Korea is acquiring cyberattacks tax assets on cryptocurrency assets.
According to the United Nations (UN) report, North Korea continues to attack cryptocurrency companies. The United Nations (UN) has once again lashed out at North Korea. North Korea, which has been starving and suffering from hunger, has conducted nine missile tests one after the other since the beginning of this year. In such a situation, the question arose that where is the money coming from to North Korea to do this test. The answer is now given by the United Nations. North Korea has earned a hefty cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchanges last year. The expert on a UN intelligence report made the revelation on Saturday.
The UNs independent sanctions monitors submitted a report on friday to the un security council’s sanctions committee on north korea.
According to a Reuters report, experts wrote: “Although no nuclear test or any long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) has been tested, North Korea continued to develop the capability to produce nuclear-capable missiles.”

north korea’s monitors say cyber attacks, and especially cyber-attacks on cryptocurrency assets, are making it a major revenue-generating tool for north korea, and they have received information that north korean hackers continue to attack financial institutions, cryptocurrency companies and exchanges.
“CYBER ATTACKERS FROM THE DPRK, PURSUANT TO A MEMBER STATE, ATTACKED AT LEAST THREE CRYPTOCURRENCY EXCHANGES IN NORTH AMERICA, EUROPE AND ASIA BY MID-2020 AND MID-2021 AND STOLE $50 MILLION WORTH OF CRYPTOCURRENCIES,” THE REPORT SAID.
The monitors also cited a report released by cybersecurity firm Chenalises last month that said North Korea seized digital assets worth nearly $400 million in at least seven attacks on cryptocurrency platforms last year.
In 2019, un sanctions monitors reported that north korea had made about $2 billion to build weapons of mass destruction using cyber-attacks.
In the past few years, the un security council has banned north korea from exporting coal, iron, lead, clothing and seafood, and crude oil and petroleum products.
NORTH KOREA, OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA (DPRK), HAS LONG BEEN SUBJECTED TO SANCTIONS BY THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL AGAINST LAUNCHING NUCLEAR TESTS OR BALLISTIC MISSILES.
“THE MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF NUCLEAR AND BALLISTIC MISSILE INFRASTRUCTURE AT THE DPRK CONTINUES. THE DPRK COLLECTS MATERIALS, TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATION FOR THIS FROM ABROAD. IT ALSO INCLUDES CYBER METHODS AND JOINT SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH.”
Since 2006, north korea has been subject to un sanctions. over the past few years, the security council has tightened these to rein in funding for pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile project. there has been no response from north korea’s mission to the united nations yet to respond to the report.
