Crypto currency trader Vinay Naik was abducted on January 14. The abductors had demanded bitcoin ransom of three billion rupees ($40 million).
A police constable has been arrested for abducting a crypto-currency trader and demanding a $40 million dollar bitcoin transaction, officials said, adding that seven others have been arrested along with him. Dilip Tukaram Khandare, second largest city after Mumbai in Maharashtra, in Pune, came to know that a person in his city owned a very large bitcoin wallet so he planned to kidnap the owner of the bitcoin wallet.
Dilip Tukaram, along with some of the conspirators, allegedly abducted 38-year-old Vinay Naik on January 14. Dilip demanded vinay to give him all his three billion rupees ($40 million) of digital currency. He also demanded rs 8 lakh with him.
when the abductors came to know that the police were investigating the case, vinay naik was suddenly let off the very next day and the conspirators were arrested on tuesday.
A SENIOR POLICE OFFICIAL TOLD AFP: “WE HAVE ARRESTED EIGHT PEOPLE, INCLUDING A POLICE CONSTABLE.”
