U.S. scientists who created the first living robot and named it Xenobot have come up with some exciting information. Scientists claim that the robot will now be able to reproduce, but the way reproduction is seen between plants and animals is a little different in the case of xenobots. The robot was created using the stem cells of an African frog (Xenopus levis). That is why the device made from it is named ‘Xenobot’.
According to scientists, this is the world’s first ‘living robot’. This robot is smaller than 1 millimeter. Zenobot was first unveiled in 2020. Multiple tests showed that they could move, work together, and control themselves.
Now scientists at the University of Vermont, Tufts University and Harvard University in Biological Engineering say they have discovered a completely new form of biological reproduction different from any animal or plant.
Michael Levine, a professor of biology and director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts University, said: “I was amazed at this discovery. Frogs have their own reproductive system. They have not found a way to walk like themselves, they have found a way to reproduce! “

Stem cells are a special type of cell that has the ability to grow on its own. To make xenobots, researchers scraped live stem cells from frog embryos and kept them for incubation. No genetic changes were observed. “Most people think robots are made of metal and ceramics, but that’s not what robots mean. Robots are something that can do things for humans,” said Josh Bongard, a University of Vermont expert and lead author of the study.

Bongguard said they had seen that the xenobots, which were originally spherical in shape and made up of about 3,000 cells, could now replicate. Xenobots have used “kinetic replication” – a process that occurs at the molecular level, but has never been seen before in the life cycle of an entire cell or organism. With the help of artificial intelligence, researchers have tested billions of body sizes to make genobots more efficient in this type of replication.
Xenobots, less than one millimeter in size, have a specific physical structure measuring 0.04 inches. Scientists created that structure with the help of supercomputers. They have been given a shape that has never existed before in the animal kingdom. According to researchers, the robot, made from a combination of molecular biology and artificial intelligence, could be used for many purposes in the human body and the environment. These include the collection of microplastics at sea, inspection of root systems and life-saving drugs. 0.04 inch xenobots will be used in the army. However, no one said how.
